Choosing the Right Lawn Care Company in Commerce

How to Choose the Right Lawncare Company in Commerce Township

April 08, 20253 min read

Hiring a lawncare company can feel overwhelming—especially with so many options out there. Whether you're looking for basic mowing or full-service lawn maintenance, choosing the right provider is key to getting the results you want without wasting money or time. Here’s what to look for when choosing the best lawncare company in Commerce Township.

Find a Company with Local Expertise

Lawncare in Commerce Township comes with its own set of challenges—like the heavy clay soil, unpredictable weather, and cool-season grass varieties found in our area. A company that understands the local conditions will know how to treat your lawn, recommend the right grass types, and time services like fertilizing or aeration for the best results.

Ask a few companies how many customers they serve and what services are best for your lawn.

Check Services Offered

Not all lawncare companies offer the same services. Some only provide mowing, while others offer full packages including fertilization, weed control, pest management, aeration, and seasonal cleanups. Think about what your lawn actually needs—and look for a provider that can do it all. To see what we offer, take a look at our services page.

Ask About Products and Equipment

Make sure the company uses high-quality, well-maintained equipment and lawn-friendly products. It's important to use the best products for your lawn.

If you have a pet, ask if the company's fertilizers are pet-safe. Ask if they they use organic treatments if you are wanting to preserve your lawn. Companies serious about lawncare in Commerce Township should be transparent about what products they’re using on your lawn.

Read Reviews and Testimonials

One of the easiest ways to determine a company’s reliability is to read what their current customers are saying. Look at Google reviews, Facebook pages, or even ask for local references. Positive feedback—especially from other Commerce Township residents—is a strong sign you’re in good hands.

Negative feedback is also key. See if anyone's had poor experiences with their company. We recommend going with companies that have more than 4 stars on their Google Business page.

Know the Questions to Ask

Before signing up, ask these questions:

  • How long have you been in business?

  • Do you offer contracts or pay-as-you-go options?

  • How often do you service lawns during the season?

  • What happens if I’m not satisfied with a treatment?

Still not sure what to ask? Check out our full list of questions to ask lawncare companies.

Compare Pricing—But Don’t Just Go for the Cheapest

While budget is always important, the cheapest quote isn’t always the best. A professional, dependable service may cost a bit more upfront, but it usually pays off in long-term lawn health and fewer headaches.

As the expression goes, you get what you pay for.

What cities do you service?

Commerce Township, Walled Lake, Novi, Wixom, Farmington Hills and more. Request a quote now to see if we can help you!

What is included in the service?

We provide you with weekly lawn cutting, trimming, as well as edging.

How often should we water our lawn for optimal growth?

The frequency and timing of lawn watering depend on several factors, including your soil type and grass variety. As a general guideline, it's best to water deeply but infrequently. Most lawns benefit from around 1 to 1.5 inches of water per week, including rainfall. To promote strong root growth, it's usually better to water in the early morning, ideally between 6 AM and 10 AM. This allows the grass to dry before evening, reducing the risk of diseases.

Can you give us a one-time cut?

We are currently only accepting weekly accounts.

What type of lawn mower does Colin's Lawncare use?

We use eXmark 60-inch riding lawn mowers.
